I've slept better at cheaper hotels, one of which had crack addicts in the stairwells and bullets in the parking lot. I don't know who it was who decided on the choice of blinds for this place but they really did a poor job on that one. The banquet hall behind the hotel is lit up like a Christmas tree all throughout the night and the blinds do nothing to filter it out. If that building has to have lights on 24/7 then you would think they would have blackout curtains instead of the mesh things that were in the room. Now with that in mind I still might have been able to sleep okay if there wasn't the added factor of noise. It sounded like there was a generator constantly droning, although to be fair this was in the wake of Irma, so it's likely that this was a temporary issue, but even then I would hear the ice machine going off at odd hours in the night. I was barely able to get a few power naps in. I gave it 2 stars because the room looked nice (well, the second room did, the first room they gave us had other people's stuff in it,) the AC worked and the breakfast was good, but at $140 I would never go back there again. Even $70 is too much. Why pay for a room that I can't get to sleep in? I mean I'm sorry if this is scathing but that's a lot of money for one night.
I was staying here after hurricane Irma took out my well at my house. Well after a painful 4days of trying to find somewhere and going and meeting with fema people this hotel said they'd accommodate us. They said at the time of making the reservation there would be no cost to me with the rate of the room i was getting. Well night before checkout and I have a random amount taken out of my gfs back account. Turned out to be half her check. So here I am waiting to do the my word vs. their employee because the management didn't believe my story apparently. Oh add insult to injury some of the staff gave me dirty looks for what I could imagine for being a disaster victim and using the resources made available to me.
So I had the absolute pleasure of staying at holiday inn express & suites in Fleming island for 24 nights with 10 other employees from my work & it was simply wonderful. The hotel was new & bright, the rooms were clean the staff was great. When you spend that much time there you really get to know the people & can tell a well run establishment. Now I'm not saying we didn't have issues, we did there was a snafu with the incidental credit cards accidentally being charged the room rate instead of just the hold amount but once notified the staff & GM cared for the issue quickly & compassionately. They allowed us to take over their hotel and make it our temporary home, but they were always mindful of other guests & if necessary reminded us to consider the other guests as well. I saw one person mentioned there were no black out blinds, there were you just had to roll them down. There is a sun shade & then there is a blackout blind, they worked so well it was hard to tell what time it was when you woke up. They offered laundry service & for me sent my clothes out to the local cleaners at my request, they have rotating breakfast 7 days a week. Coffee & hot water in the lobby all the time, mini fridge & microwave in the room. I hope i am fortunate enough to stay at the holiday inn express & suites in Fleming island again, if i ever have to return to Fleming island FL.
Very nice and polite service. However they need their doors fixed. My room door wouldn't close all the way unless I would pull it really hard and seems like similar issue with other doors I heard people slamming doors all night. So if you are staying here make sure door behind you locks and don't just leave. I almost left thinking door is going to shut but it did not.
Great breakfast, very clean, helpful staff.
